Each of the schools in the Vidalia City School System applied for the Striving Reader’s Grant in the fall of last year. We are excited to report that the system was awarded the grant and will receive a little over $1 million dollars. The grant funds are divided by the number of students at each school. SDM will be receiving around $349,364.00 based on the number of students we had when we applied for the grant. This literacy grant money will be very helpful because it can be used for resources (books, literacy programs, etc.), technology to support literacy (interactive boards, e-texts etc..), and professional learning. It will enhance our classrooms by creating a more engaging learning atmosphere for our students. The goal is to help close gaps that are found in reading achievement. Research committees within the schools have been formed to determine the most effective programs to be purchased with these funds.
