On May 8th, representatives from Lowe's assisted the SDM 4th graders with a construction project to coincide with career day. Mrs. Tammy and an assistant from Lowe's gave their day off to help the students learn more about construction and how it relates to various careers. Not only did the team from Lowe's assist in the building process, but they also supplied the kits and hammers for each student. Students were divided into several groups and were assisted in constructing their own carriage. Several high school students also participated as helpers for each group of students. Students learned the importance of safety when handling tools, as well as the importance of reading and following directions. Mrs. Tammy explained how she and other employees of Lowe's conduct Saturday clinics each month, and she invited the students to join them for the next session. As a result of the success of the project, Mrs. Tammy said she would like for it to be an annual event.
