On Thursday, November 21, the Wise Guys launched our water bottle rockets at SDM! For the 8th consecutive year Mr. Sam Owens volunteered to assist us with our launch. Mr. Owens made his very own launch pad, and it is really cool! One of the highlights was that he actually let us countdown “4, 3, 2, 1!” and push the blast off button ourselves to send our rockets soaring into the sky.
Rockets were hand made by members of the Wise Guys. This was a fun time to spend with our parents and family members as we were able to design our own rockets. All of the rockets were cool and they varied greatly in size and design. Some were decorated with tape while others were painted. Great ideas and creativity were definitely displayed. Some rockets were long and pointed, others were smaller. Some had fins to help them be more aerodynamic and some were even weighted. We were able to see how the size and shape affected the height of the rocket launch.
A few of the rockets that ascended the highest were designed by David T., Reagan M., Addy R., and Jesslyn P. and many others (including yours truly). Gracie M.’s rocket came down in slow motion like a helicopter because of the shape and design of her fins. That was really neat. This was such a fun time. Thank you to Mrs. Feimster and Mrs. Braddy for giving us this opportunity. Thank you to Mr. Sam Owens. Also thank you to our parents who always support our RISING efforts. Who knows…maybe one day some of us will design rockets for NASA.
WHEN YOU ARE A WISE GUY, THE SKY IS THE LIMIT!
