It's time to "dress up" your pumpkin or write a fabulous fall poem to share at SDM's annual "Pumpkins and Poems" Contest! Students, with adult supervision, can paint or carve a real or artificial pumpkin of any size. Theme ideas are pumpkins that are funny, scary, or look like animals or fictional/nonfictional characters, etc. The student's name, homeroom teacher, and grade should be written on the back or bottom of the pumpkin. This will be needed when the judging takes place. Students can also elect to write a poem about fall. The poems should be the students' work and written on the form that was sent home.
Students can bring their pumpkins to the SDM Media Center Monday morning, October 22nd, Tuesday morning, October 23rd, or Wednesday morning, October 24th, no later than 8:00 am. The poems can be submitted to the Media Center staff any day before Wednesday, October 24th.
Judging of the pumpkins and poems will take place Wednesday. All students who participate will receive a special prize. Each grade will also have a winner, a first runner up, and three honorable mentions selected in the pumpkin contest and the poem contest. All entrees will be displayed in the Media Center for classroom visits to the "Pumpkin Patch". Please make sure all pumpkins are taken home no later than Wednesday, October 31st.
