Earlier this week, Sally Meadows Elementary staff employees selected their Teacher of the Year and Support Staff Member of the Year.
Mrs. Megan Haygood received the honor as the Teacher of the Year. She has taught fourth grade science/social studies for eight years. She is the current grade-level leader who represents her grade as a liaison between all fourth grade teachers and the SDM administration. When asked why she became a teacher, Mrs. Haygood said, “Choosing to become a teacher was a very easy decision for me. I never even considered another profession. To me, teaching is one of the greatest jobs you can have. One of the many reasons I chose to become a teacher was simply because I wanted to do for children what my teachers did for me when I was in school. I can’t remember one teacher that I had who didn’t push me to do my best, encourage me on a daily basis, and simply love me. I have always felt the desire to serve others and what better way to do that than to teach children?”
Mrs. Belma Franklin was selected as the Support Staff Member of the Year. Mrs. Franklin has been the receptionist at SDM for fourteen years after relocating to Vidalia from New York. Mrs. Franklin is one of the most valuable employees of SDM as she is the first face everyone sees when they enter the school. She has a sunny disposition and genuinely cares about every student at the school. Mrs. Franklin has a simple perspective when describing how she feels about working at SDM, “I love the staff, and I love the children.”
Congratulations to both of these well-deserving ladies!
